Cannabis is legal in Canada

The anti-climax

Cannabis is legal in Canada.

Or is it?

I live in Quebec. And contrary to almost everywhere else in Canada, I cannot grow my own cannabis plant.

A plant.

That is now legal across the country.

And I cannot grow one at home for my own personal use.

Don’t get me wrong. I am grateful for Canada to have legalized one of my favourite plants. The stigma will start to wear off slowly and a whole nation can start to heal.

The divide will be slowly mend.

We talk a lot about Cannabis at work now. It’s hilarious. It used to be such a taboo subject and now most everybody is becoming an expert on the subject.

Cannabis has helped me quit drinking alcohol. Gateway drug my ass. It actually helps me to stay sober.

2 and a half years today.

Also, I used to siphon pain killers like they were candies.

I’ve been dealing with back pain for nigh on 17 years now. Used to be I couldn’t wake up without that dear old friend settled in my lower back. Hugging all the joy and pleasure out of life. So upon waking I took a few 400mg of Advil. 4 times daily. That is a lot of ibuprofen let me tell ya’.

Wreaked havok on my digestive system.

She was a constant presence. Pain. Always on my mind. Always gnawing at my energy levels. Ever present.

I self medicated with alcohol. What a viscous cycle that was. Dehydration and lack of a good night’s sleep are two of the most pain enhancing behaviours out there. And I indulged in both of them.

Oh. And I was a cigarette smoker also.

So Cannabis helped me.

She warmed my evenings.

Enhanced my afternoons.

I used to only smoke it, which is probably how to get the least out of this emerald flower. Today I mostly ingest it in gummy form. Was a time I simply infused some coconut oil with some Cannabis and had maybe an eight of a teaspoon in the morning. Such a small amount it wasn’t even psychoactive (didn’t feel the “high”). Mostly for the body buzz. And pain relief.

So back to legalization.

It is the beginning folks. The beginning of a new era.

There will be some wins.

There will be some failures.

We will evolve as a nation.

What will we evolve as is yet to be seen.
